From Mashable, April 4, 2011, we find an article on stats. Not what intrigues me or keeps me glued to the site, though; for me, its the engagement and the learning I do in Quora.
This is a good article on Quora dynamics to consider. For those who use LinkedIn Answers, contrast the dynamics and vote-weighting (in Mashable, this is not touched on, but is a salient point – all votes (up/down for answers) are not equal in weight), and the related topic suggestions you get in Quora, and you are sold.
Quora‘s key strengths are:
1) Many industry leaders are active on Quora, especially technology entrepreneurs and journalists.
2) Quora is more optimized around following topics and specific questions, rather than people, though you will see that people very quickly react to your activity, and follow your questions and answers – and soon enough, you.
Those two factors make Quora a great place to engage industry leaders, and to get answers about the technology industry.
Another key point is that Quora is more focused on the people, while Answers.com is focused on the answers. You must read my “Answer Me, Quora.” In many ways Quora is fun, real-time updating, and far more engaging than five other Q&A SNS that I have tried.
AN excerpt of the Mashable article is a helpful chart: this infographic was made by Semil Shah, a Quora user.
What do you think of Quora’s dynamics? Utility for your needs? Tired of being scolded by Quora reviewers and editors? I thank them and move along with my day.
Do you feel like you are being treated as a Johnny-come-lately in Quora? A “newcomer” – though you have been active in social media for years?
“Rise above it,” as my friend Todd Barker would say, and remember, in a Quora Post, there is no moderation, and I have ideas that few have considered. Remember, Quora provides a wonderful medium from which we can engage with peers – based on our Answers. Have you seen mine?
